Matrah is a wilayat of Muscat Governorate on the Gulf of Oman, set between the sea and the Hajar Mountains. The district combines a working harbour, a 200-year-old souq and a seafront promenade, with a 30-minute drive to the airport.
The corniche runs about 3 km along the bay, from the fish market to Riyam Park. Rocky hills close the district from the land side, so new homes here stand between the water and the mountains.
